What does Beer and Social Media have in common? You only rent them (and can be dangerous when combined)!
There's a story all over the internet about a fairly successful company called LittleThings. It WAS a feel-good story page for women built around Facebook. Changes to the Facebook algorithms literally killed the traffic to their page and they watched their 58 million fans interaction quickly dwindle. Now 100+ people are looking for jobs.
Businesses often drink the kool-aid and its lure of 2 billion people as a fast and almost free way to grow. There are millions of pages and groups, but here is the whack upside the head… YOU DON'T OWN THEM!
Someone just emailed me that a Facebook page to help a friend with a medical condition was blocked (who knows why?), and at a critical time when people who care are trying to raise funds quickly! Even the best of intentions can be derailed.
This is why having your own domain name, website, and original content is SO important… you DO own that! Don't get me wrong, I am very PRO Social Media to distribute your content and create communities, but it's in your best interest to get them to your website and on an email list that YOU OWN!
In this episode, we will explore why you want to own your brand and content… Neither Beer nor Social Media is 100% free!
