Episode 406 – How-To Own Your Website And Save Time & Money

I believe that one of the fundamentals of running a business is creating and managing your own website. If you use a free service like Squarespace, Wix, and others, you may have a website, but you don’t have an asset. An asset is something you OWN and you can move to a new location and repurpose at will. Free and closed-loop systems, like those mentioned above, have one goal and that is to keep you locked into their platform. And if you want to add functions chances are you will have to pay.

I have had some experience with website development, and hosting (over 20 years since I made my first one), and all I can tell you is that things change, and change is happening at an accelerated pace today!

Here are the 5 core things I want you to think about when creating web assets and owning them…

Episode 382 – Can Guilt Be Useful To Get People To Buy Something?

There was a National Lampoon Magazine issue entitled “If You Don’t Buy This Magazine We Will Kill This Dog”. It was a very effective cover, but did it guilt people into buying the magazine? Probably not!

People don’t want to be guilted into buying something, but you can motivate them if you can empathize with them about being a victim…

Episode 350 – Website Hosting… What Is It? Why Should You Care?

Web Hosting is something that you never really think about when it’s working, and obsess about when it’s not. It’s the lifeblood of your website and your information being found and viewed on the web and in search engines like Google.

I often talk about creating content assets and not trying to run a business on FREE platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and so on. Then why would you want to run a business on a FREE web hosting service? Free means you don’t own it and you can be shut down at any time for any reason, and there is NOTHING you can do about it!
