Have you noticed that social media is becoming more and more divisive lately? Something as simple and fictional as a mermaid is causing people lose their minds, get in fights, and spew hate, vitriol, and disdain.

I have been trying to be more positive on social media, posting fun stuff, positive quotes, and real life stories of overcoming life’s obstacles. The amount of engagement has been outstanding and encouraging, and people love to share and be engaged and conversational around positive topics.

Creating graphics is a skill. So is photography, design, layout and using software to enhance and optimize them. You can choose to do it yourself or hire an expert, but either way, you brand is depending on the quality, the emotion, and the use of those graphics.

What’s more important to you and your business… Engagement or Education when it comes to posting on Social Media? Well that depends on many factors? What platform are you posting? What are your goals, Who is your audience and where are they hanging out?

Engagement is very measurable and desirable, but it’s not always an indication of action. People engage in different ways. They comment, like or share and that can be very exciting, but may or may not culminate in any sales.

Education is creating longer form posts and often links to deeper educational content (like blogs, podcasts, videos, and more). Educating people takes longer to create and often generates less but more targeted engagement. There is, however, and long term cumulative effect that can lead to measurable sales.

Would you take a flight knowing that it was ONLY running on autopilot? Why would you try to do that with your social media posts? Ever platform has a different audience, but more importantly, a different ecosystem for posts. They vary in picture size, text amounts, hashtags or no hashtags, and more!

I use Canva.com (both the free and paid for versions) to create stunning (scroll stopping) graphics. The paid for version lets you resize and reuse your designs.
Graphics are the key to getting attention, but often the meat (BACON) of the message is in the text. Limits range from 280-2000 characters (not words). How you format and use that limited messaging resource is paramount to the effectiveness of your messaging!

In this episode, I will discuss how to maximize Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest (and touch on Instagram). I wall also give you three DO & DON’T tips to help you get the most out of your social media posts!
